A Compendium of Design Considerations for Coin Aircraft.

Abstract

A comprehensive study of the design problems which arise in the design of an aircraft specifically designed to accomplish COIN missions was conducted. An effectiveness model was constructed to measure the performance of and to score and weigh the effectiveness of existing modified, developmental, and conceptual aircraft in each phase of various missions. Four different types of propulsion systems were investigated. A vehicle was designed to be superior to existing aircraft in the special characteristics required by COIN. An optimum aircraft was selected using the method of generalized performance. (Author)
