Soil Velocity Transducer System.

Abstract

The report describes a velocity transducer system designed and fabricated to Soil HEST requirements. Evaluation of the canister to soil coupling indicates a good correlation between canister velocity and soil particle velocity. A piston-type, fluid overdamped transducer with a shock-resistant signal conditioner unit has been designed which generally meets the requirements, as indicated by a brief preliminary test program. A canister system with heat control was developed to provide a suitable environment and containment for the transducers. The type and design of the transducer appears promising for modification to Rock HEST requirements. (Author)
