Study of Composite Propulsion Systems for Close Support Aircraft. Volume I. Analyses and Results.

Abstract

Volume I describes a study of advanced propulsion systems which was performed to determine which system arrangement and what propulsion technology developments might afford maximum performance potential to an advanced design of Navy close support airplane. Advanced propulsion systems of various design characteristics were investigated in several installation arrangements on a specific airplane design to determine which provided maximum LOITER capability. Propulsion technology representative of that which is presumed to be operational after 1980 was used. The goal was to provide information which will be helpful in planning and directing propulsion technology development for this category of airplane in the next few years. (Author)
