Shear Behavior of Deep Reinforced Concrete Beams. Volume IV. Internal Strain Gaging Technique for Statically and Dynamically Loaded Reinforced Concrete Beams.

Abstract

An internal strain gaging technique for portland cement concrent was developed. The technique involves casting and cutting concrete cylindrical segments, bonding wire resistance strain gages to the segments, and then cementing the segments back together with epoxy to re-form the original structure. The technique was evaluated by analogizing the research of others and by applying the technique to reinforced concrete beams in the laboratory. Data are presented which show consistency of recorded strains using the technique. The fabrication and installation techniques are also described in detail. (Author)
