Abstract

Results under the contrast were obtained on: rigorizing the foundations of information theory, extending the coding theorem to classes of channels, channels with memory, channels with jamming, random coding, and simultaneous information transmission with interacting channels. Various bounds were obtained on the probability of an error in transmission. Results were obtained on pattern recognition, computer memory analysis, contact networks, transportation problems, gambling systems, algebraic coding, order statistics, finite deterministic automata, dynamic programming, irreducible matrices, stochastic sequential machines, poisson traffic distributions, quality control, consistent estimates, Markov processes, directed graphs, semimartingales, and linear sequential machines.
