Handec I Free Field Data Report.

Abstract

The purpose of HANDEC I was to demonstrate the feasibility of combining the High Explosive Simulation Technique (HEST) with the Direct Induced High Explosive Simulation Technique (DIHEST) to simulate, for the first time, the properly time phased airblast-induced and direct-induced ground motions resulting from a nuclear surface burst. Peak overpressure of the HEST was a nominal 6000 lbs/sq in while the DIHEST was an exact duplicate of the DATEX I experiment. Free field motions were monitored with air pressure, velocity, acceleration and strain transducers. The instrumentation and instrument locations are briefly described along with the test bed geology and layout. All free field data are presented plus integrations of air pressure, velocity and acceleration traces. (Author)
