Flow Orientation of Short Fibers in Transfer Molding,

Abstract

A method is developed for describing the complex orientation distributions of short fibers in moldings. The degree to which orientation can be controlled in a simple shape is demonstrated by transfer molding a bar under various conditions. High degrees of transverse and longitudinal alignment are possible. Average orientation in the bar is correlated with the measured tensile modulus. (Author)
