Pershing P1a Alignment System Task Summary Report.

Abstract

This report presents a summary of Pershing P1a alignment system problems and the remedial action taken during the period from October 1968 to October 1969. The problems were found to stem from two major sources: (1) insufficient attention to total system details and subsequent lack of total system verification testing and (2) imposition of new system requirements. Satisfactory solutions were devised for the major problems, resulting in generally improved performance. Other problems were shown to be of insufficient magnitude to drastically affect system operation. Use of the new airborne digital guidance and control computer to perform the alignment and leveling functions is recommended as a means for further improvement of system performance. (Author)
