Development of Improved High Diffusivity Lustreless Olive Drab Enamel.

Abstract

This report covers the development of a new high diffusivity lustreless olive drab enamel having controlled infrared reflectance. The use of selected particle size crystalline and diatomaceous silicas combined with controlled dispersion techniques enabled formulation of an enamel possessing the properties required in Specification MIL-E-46134(MR), Enamel, High Diffusivity, Lustreless, Olive Drab, without using polypropylene flatting pigment. The coating also offers a cost reduction of approximately 25% from the existing specification material. The new formula was adopted for use as a replacement for the original MIL-E-46134 Enamel.
