Short Range Communications System for CB Protective Masks.

Abstract

The goal of the program was to provide a short range radio communication system for use among Air Force personnel wearing CB protective mask equipment with the requirement that it be usable with several protective masks not currently equipped for communication. Other major considerations were the selection of a radio frequency compatible with Eglin Air Force Base radio communications, the incorporation of a fairly efficient antenna which could be worn on the man, and human factors considerations of comfort, ease of use, safety, etc. A prototype short range communication system was developed. The design approach allows either a standard M24 mask communication system or a modified system using a head contact microphone to be integrated with a single transceiver. (Author)
