Determination of Error Limits on Electron-Density Distributions Derived from VLF/LF Sounder Data.

Abstract

A method is developed for mapping the standard errors of vlf/lf sounder data into error limits on ionosphere parameters determined from the data. In the case of electron-density and collision-frequency distributions the error limits take the form of error 'bands.' Interpretation of these bands is discussed. Results are given for two sets of actual data. An example is given to show the type of result which can be expected when the collision-frequency profile is also found from the sounder data and its error band is determined. (Author)
