The Influence of Interference on Transmission Quality in PCM Systems,

Abstract

The article derives an equation for calculating the output noise level at the output of PCM equipment caused by an interference voltage during a transmission affecting the code signal. The equation is generally derived and introduced in its standardized form for the most important types of patterns restored by the PCM receiver converter (a rectangular pattern which drops exponentially) and for the ordinary and idealized bandpass filter of the receiver. The calculation of the energy of an isolated pattern after its passage through the ordinary and idealized bandpass filter is examined in detail, and the relationships between this energy, the probability of code-signal interference during transmission and the output noise of the system are determined.
