Analysis of Apache Wind Tunnel Free-Flight Data.

Abstract

An analysis of free-flight wind tunnel angular motions is presented. The tests were conducted on the Apache Sounding Rocket at a Mach number of 8. The Nonlinear Aeroballistic Theory and Data Reduction Procedure was used to obtain the nonlinearity of the restoring, damping and Magnus moment stability coefficients with angle of attack. The investigation demonstrated that the free-flight wind tunnel testing technique furnishes an excellent means for determining the stability coefficients. (Author)
