Measurement System for Dielectric Property Determination of Polymers in the Decimeter Wave Range at 20-250C,

Abstract

A coaxial resonator used for the determination of the dielectric properties of plastics in the 20-250C temperature range was a capacitively loaded coaxial conduit short-circuited on one side. The resonance frequency was affected in addition to the geometric configuration of the resonator, also by the dielectric constant of the specimen. The theory of the measuring method, the construction of the device, and the method of evaluating the results are described, and some test results involving the temperature-dependence of the dielectric constant of polytetrafluoroethylene and poly(vinyl acetate) are presented.
