The Application of Gas-Liquid Chromatography in the Separation of Ferrocene Derivatives,

Abstract

The separation of various mixtures of ferrocene derivatives into phases of distinct polarity is described. In all of the cases investigated and those which are described in the literature a definite interrelationship of the isomer-elution series is observed. For ferrocene derivates containing one nonpolar substituent (alkyl and phenyl ferrocenes) and one or two polar substituents (carbomethyoxy-, acetyl-, cyano-ferrocene) the following retention volume variation was established in phases of different polarity. In ferrocene derivates with two or three nonpolar substituents (alkyl and trialkylsilyl ferrocene) an opposite isomer-elution series is observed. The elution series can contribute very much to isomer identification. (Author)
