Short Notes: Spirocyclic Esters of Orthosilicic Acid,

Abstract

After long and unsuccessful attempts to produce the spirocyclic ester of orthosilicic acid, the ester was finally obtained by reacting the corresponding glycols with silicon tetrachloride or tetraacetoxysilane and by other methods. We have developed a procedure for preparing spirocyclic esters of orthosilicic acids of the aliphatic series which consists of rearranging the polyesters. These, in turn, are obtained by the ester interchange of tetraethoxysilane with the corresponding glycols in the presence of pure bases or acids. (Author)
