Problems of Thesaurocytes and the Absence of Dysproteinemia,

Abstract

The authors suggest that in the course of reticuloplasmocytoma there need not always appear absolute dysproteinemia. The lack of albumin disturbances in blood serum may be explained by two mechanisms: (1) 'storage' of pathological albumin in the cytoplasm of a cell rich in ergastoplasm may be dependent upon its enzymatic inability to evacuate albumin from the cell. Then, in the bone marrow thesaurocytes would be observed; (2) injury to the cell by an unknown pathological factor leading to total incapacity of the cell in the protein-synthesizing section. As is evident from the above, the absence of albumin disturbances in the blood serum in the course of plasmocytoma need not be of absolute diagnostic significance. (Author)
