Automatic Cartographic System (ACS) (Mod II). Volume II. Programmer's Manual.

Abstract

The Automatic Cartographic System (ACS) (Mod II) comprises a set of computer programs for use at the Experimental Cartographic Facility at Rome Air Development Center (RADC). These programs process cartographic data in digital form to develop techniques of automated symbolization, editing, color, separation, generalization, sectioning, and paneling. Section I of Volume I (AD-868 473) is the 'study and investigation' behind the development of the Mod II system. It describes the mathematical techniques and algorithms that were developed and considered for expanding the earlier Mod I system. Section II of Volume I (AD-868 473) is the 'user's manual,' containing the information necessary for operating the Mod II ACS. Volume II, of the present report, is a 'programmer's manual' which documents the programming principles involved in this expansible system. It describes the data structures and list processing system, developed by PRA for cartographic features in both Mod II and Generalization programs and their file systems. It also contains guides for both the programmer who must maintain the system and the programmer who wishes to build upon it. (Author)
