Ten-by-Ten Matrix Photomultiplier Feasibility Model Development and Associated Studies.

Abstract

Six parallel matrix photodetectors (PMPD's) were fabricated for feasibility analysis. The PMPD's provide in a single envelope 100 parallel photomultipliers in a 1.7 cm by 1.7 cm format. Test results show that some engineering problems remain. However, more importantly they also show that elementary PMPD's 100-1000 elements) could be operational in electro-optical systems within one or two years. In addition, certain studies associated with PMPD technology are reported including investigations of PMPD signal-to-noise characterization and PMPD ultimate performance limitations. (Author)
