HAST Ramjet Configuration Wind Tunnel Test Summary.

Abstract

This report presents a summary of the results of a wind tunnel test of a ramjet engine installation on an advanced high altitude supersonic target vehicle configuration. The target vehicle used is an adaptation of the Beech Model 1069, and the ramjet design is a scaled-down version of the Marquardt MA 206-XAA ramjet engine. A description of the wind tunnel model is given, and the special instrumentation used in the test is described. Testing methods used and a listing of the theory and test program is also given. Values of interference drag were 15 percent of the total drag for the normal shock inlet. Alternate inlet designs were tested which reduced the spillage drag contribution to drag up to 10 percent of the normal shock inlet value. The spillage drag increment was less than estimated at Mach numbers less than 2.3. (Author)
