LITPARS (Litton Passive Ranging System) System Development Program (Phase II). Coplanar (Sub-vs-Sub, 2 Dimensional), Angular Measurements Only Solution.

Abstract

This report documents the investigation conducted by Litton Guidance and Control Division, on the effects natural contamination of angular measurements employed by LITPARS equations, would have on the accuracy of computing a range to target and target course and speed. Included in this study are the true values obtained when LITPARS equations are utilized with accurate data, and the results obtained when various smoothing techniques and devices, developed during this study were employed to improve the accuracies of the LITPARS solution. The results obtained indicate that the methods herein displayed, when employed with various maneuvers, will yield extremely accurate computations of range and target velocity. (Author)
