Acoustic Reflectivity and Transmission Loss at High Frequencies for 'SOAB' AND 'WHIPPED SCOTCHCAST 221'.

Abstract

The acoustic reflectivity and transmission loss of 6SOAB6 and 6WhippedSCOTCHCAST 2216 (flexible urethane) were measured for the frequency range700 kHz-1.7 MHz, and the results were applied to the design of a highfrequency anechoic tank. Two entirely different techniques were used incalculating the reflectivity coefficients. The first technique was measuringthe reflected sound; the second, involved calculating the reflectivitycoefficients knowing the acoustic impedances. The results indicate goodagreement. The transmission loss portion of the experiment was a directmeasurement of the sound transmitted through the samples. The resultsindicate 6Whipped SCOTCHCAST 2216 is a weaker reflector than 6SOAB6 and acomparable absorber, thus more suited as an anechoic tank liner for thisfrequency range. (Author-PL)
