Fabrication of Thermoplastics Filled with Discontinuous Fibers by Interfacial Injection,
Abstract
The feasibility of fabricating reinforced thermoplastic molding compoundsusing a one- Step interfacial polymerization technique has been demonstrated. A bench-scale process to continuously fabricate short glass fiber reinforced Nylon 66 was designed and constructed. Process parameter studies related to optimization of the glass filler content in the Nylon composite were carried out using a batch procedure. The continuous process is presently capable of producing more than one kilogram per day of fiber reinforced Nylon 66 molding compound containing at least 15 volume percent glass fiber. ( Author-PL)
