Block File and Multics Systems Interface Investigation and Programming. Volume I.

Abstract

The report documents the development of a test vehicle for the GE 635 that directs itself to two main areas; the production of reentrant object programs and a unique, but automatically generated, object structure that will ease debugging. Adopting a technique used in the development of a JOVIAL compiler for the UNIVAC M555, Informatics had prepared a test vehicle for testing the currently implemented approaches and suitable for other future experiments which require the construction of a special compiler. The technique, altering the present CDC 1604 JOVIAL compiler to provide GE 635 object code, provides a limited but useful set of JOVIAL language forms in which programs can be written and the resultant object programs tested. In addition to having a test vehicle, RADC now has a substantial base of work performed to enable the eventual development of an Air Force Standard JOVIAL compiler for use under anticipated multi-user, time shared systems.
