Production Processes for Rolling Tapered Titanium Plate.

Abstract

The document reports on a manufacturing methods program to establish the processing parameters for the production of titanium alloy tapered plate for application in wing structures. The program has demonstrated the technical practicality of a technique for producing tapered titanium plate in conventional rolling mills. With exception of the billet fabrication step, the process is essentially that followed in current production practices. Both electron beam welding and tungsten arc inert gas (with filler metal) welding are used. The microstructure is uniform within a plate and between plates with the same rolling schedule and heat treatment. (Author)
