Query Formulation and Encoding

Abstract

The document is intended to serve as a user's guide in formulating and encoding queries addressed to the model operational CIDS. The report summarizes the overall process of retrieval from a user's standpoint, and discusses the efficient use of each of the various components of the search system. Numerous illustrations of queries encoded on the standard coding form are provided, along with explanations of the strategy employed in each search. The command language for inputting and processing queries from the teletype is included as an appendix.
