A Study of Linear Anisotropic Viscoelasticity.

Abstract

An experimental study was conducted on epoxy-glass composites in an effort to verify the quasi-elastic application of the laminated plate theory and the Halpin-Tsai equations for determining the material properties of viscoelastic composite systems. Unidirectional laminates having three different fiber orientations with respect to the load axis were subjected to tensile creep, constant tensile loading rate and cyclic loading histories. Tests were conducted at 28, 47, 67, and 80 C. A quasi- isotropic specimen was also subjected to the same environment and loading conditions. The laminated plate analysis gave accurate predictions of the uniaxial tensile creep compliance of the quasi-isotropic laminate. Halpin-Tsai predictions were also good. (Author-PL)
