Studies of Gas-Solid Interactions Using a Modulated Beam Mass Spectrometer.
Abstract
Mass spectrometric studies of graphite vaporization kinetics have continued. Experimental emphasis has been placed on carbon vapor reflection by solid surfaces. Refined data is presented for reflected beam intensity vs. target surface temperature for graphite targets. New results are presented for carbon vapor reflection by tungsten targets. Preliminary results for flash vaporization of vapor deposited carbon films are discussed. These studies show only monatomic carbon desorbed from carbon films on tungsten, but C2 and C3 are desorbed also by the film vapor deposited on polycrystalline graphite. (Author)
