Research to Investigate Fundamental Magnetic Interactions in Selected Materials.

Abstract

The report describes efforts, based on previous work, to improve the properties of cobalt-rare-earth powders and develop techniques for making useful permanent magnets from them. Guided by fundamental investigations of magnetic phenomena in these materials, development studies have led to techniques that enable the preparation of permanent magnets having energy products twice as high as anything that has previously been available, and intrinsic coercive forces several times as great, and having complete stability in air at moderately elevated temperatures.
