Stimulated Emission in the Near Field.

Abstract

Within a program of study of the properties of optical systems and devices as related to signal and data processing, the effect of the nonradiative fields of a radiating atom on the process of stimulated emission of a second atom was considered. It is first demonstrated that the quantized vector potential contains all the dynamic fields associated with a radiative transition. The stimulated emission probability for an excited atom in the near zone of a radiating atom is then calculated and shown to depend upon the total field of the radiating atom and not just upon the radiation field.
