Dynamic Behavior of Some Metals and Non-Metals Under Tensile Impact.

Abstract

The mechanical behavior of selected materials subjected to uniaxial tensile impact at room temperature is reported. Tests were conducted on T304 stainless steel, AFC-77 high strength stainless steel, Ti-50A and Ti-6Al-4V titanium, boron filament, monofilament FEP teflon, a natural rubber textile thread, and bundled quartz fibers. The materials exhibit a wide range of dynamic behavior, including some in which the stress required to produce a given level of strain is lowered by dynamic loading. (Author)
