Study on Efficiency Improvements in O-Type Traveling-Wave Tubes.

Abstract

Cold test data were taken for circuits using both Beryllia and Boron Nitride support structures. Impedance and dielectric loading factor were measured for a variety of helix pitches and several anisotropic shield to helix radius ratios. Attenuator investigations employing Boron Nitride support rods with sputtered Titanium Carbide loss patterns were completed. A high gain velocity taper tube designed for high power and large bandwidth was constructed. The tube is similar to the previously studied feedthrough velocity taper tube with the exception of the increased circuit length and inclusion of an attenuator. An internal voltage jump coupler design was proposed to determine the feasibility of incorporating this scheme in a future high gain combination voltage jump-velocity taper tube. (Author)
