Periodic Variations Within the Water Column in the Tongue of the Ocean, Bahamas,

Abstract

Serial oceanographic observations in the Tongue of the Ocean in March and May 1962 revealed Irregular occurrences of temperature and salinity in the surface mixed layer and large time variations in all oceanographic parameters throughout most of the water column. The report presents a discussion of these temeprature and salinity anomalies and examines the various phenomena which are believed to produce the periodic and aperiodic variations in the physical properties at various levels within the water column.
