MERRYGOROUND II Experiment Description and Data Report.

Abstract

An experiment has been performed at the AFWL Cedar City (Utah) Test Site to determine methods of measuring in situ dynamic rock modulus and attenuation properties as a function of depth, to study the feasibility of using explosive slurries, ammonium nitrate, and black powder as energy sources in the direct-induced high-explosive simulation technique (DIHEST), to determine the effect on free-field stress wave form of the various explosives and attendant energy coupling techniques, and to study explosive scaling and geometry. A description of the experiment and its instrumentation and the results of the measurements performed during each test are presented. (Author)
