Investigation and Analysis of the Special Processor System (SPS).
Abstract
The study is the determination of means for structuring the SC and HEMP computer codes for efficient execution on a simulated computer. The computer concept (SPS), under development by the IBM Federal Systems Division, is conceived as a large scale multiprocessor capable of peak internal performance in excess of 260 million instructions per second. Good structures were developed for the HEMP-SOURC, HEMP-FIELD and SC-SIGMA subroutines. Simulator runs gave estimates of their performance at 73, 36 and 47 percent of the peak rate, respectively. The best structure that could be found for the given form of SC-FIELDS2 would only allow the code to run at an estimated five percent of peak performance. (Author)
