Portable Radar Wind-Measuring Equipment (PRAWM),

Abstract

A lightweight, portable, tracking radar system for balloon-borne targets has been devised that is relatively independent of the antenna beam width. The radar will provide an elevation and azimuth angle data to an anticipated accuracy of 0.05 degrees. The overall tracking technique is described, bench and radar data test results are discussed, and design characteristics are tabulated for a 50-pound radar capable of making wind measurements to 25 miles.
