Dislocations in Hexagonal Crystals.

Abstract

The theory of dislocations in anisotropic elastic media is outlined. The conditions necessary for an analytic solution are given. It is shown that the elastic properties of a dislocation in a hexagonal crystal can always be determined analytically; the hexagonal structure is the only crystal structure for which a complete analytic solution is possible. Analytical expressions are derived for the displacement field, stress field, and energy of a dislocation of arbitrary orientation and arbitrary Burgers vector in a hexagonal crystal. (Author)
