Microwave Parametric Amplifier.

Abstract

The program is aimed at developing an all solid state parametric amplifier in the 9 to 10.4 GHz band using a twin junction coaxial varactor. The four port integrated circulator including the D.C. varactor biasing circuit was completed, tested, and found to operate satisfactorily. Significant power outputs of 500 mW at 20 GHz and 24 mW at 40 GHz were obtained from TEO devices mounted in conventional ceramic packages. The new quartz package is under further development. Approximately 30 highly uniform varactor diodes were mounted on posts and ready for insertion in the amplifier structure. The amplifier structure design was improved and the new parts are ready for assembly. During the quarter work was completed on the integrated circulator. The Transferred Electron Oscillator (TEO) program which is intended to provide the amplifier's pump source was continued and parts for a new amplifier structure that will provide improved pump coupling were fabricated.
