An Automated Method for Constructing Isomagnetic Lines from a Set of Spherical Harmonic Coefficients Representing the Geomagnetic Field.

Abstract

An automated system for the construction of geomagnetic isolines on a Mercator projection is described. The method is based upon a given set of spherical harmonic coefficients representing the geomagnetic potential field. The inputs are the harmonic coefficients, the geographic boundaries, the epoch for which the isolines are to be constructed, and the chart scale. The output is the contoured geomagnetic parameters on a Mercator projection. Included is the listing of the programs in FORTRAN 2 which constitute the described system. (Author)
