Signal, Underwater Sound, Mk 59 Mod 5 Search and Rescue Signal Development Tests.

Abstract

Preliminary testing of the Signal, Underwater Sound, (SUS) Mk 59 Mod 5 is presented. This device is an explosive sound source to be used in the location of downed aircraft at sea. Test results indicate that the design is feasible. However, due to the low quality of the castings received for these tests, the device did not perform reliably. Stringent quality control during the production of the device is recommended.
