Experimental Determination of the Transfer Function Between Renal Artery Pressure and Sodium Reabsorption.

Abstract

The effects of renal perfusion pressure on sodium reabsorption were investigated in seven isolated kidney experiments. Perfusion pressure was varied by raising or lowering the perfusing laboratory animals. The results indicate that inulin clearance, absolute sodium reabsorption, and sodium excretion increased linearly, while net fractional sodium reabsorption remained constant with increased perfusion pressure. Consequently, net glomerulotubular balance was maintained when perfusion pressure was varied between 60 mm Hg and 150 mm Hg.
