Shock Monitoring Highway Movement of 175-Millimeter Cannons and 8-Inch Howitzer Cannons from Watervliet Arsenal, New York, to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

Abstract

This report deals with the instrumented monitoring of a shipment containing two 175-millimeter cannons and one 8-inch howitzer cannon. The shipment was made from Watervliet Arsenal, New York, to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The data obtained were collected by use of six Grav-A Grafs, two Statistical Shock Recorders, and the TEMARS unit. This project was conducted in consonance with the U.S. Army Transportation Engineering Agency's monitoring program which investigates levels of shocks and vibrations that occur during shipment. The program also encompasses the studying of transportation environmental factors such as humidity, air pressure, temperature, etc. (Author)
