Investigation of the Nuclear Structure of Sc44 Using the Proton Capture Reaction.

Abstract

Properties of excited states of Sc44 were studied using the Ca43(p, gamma)Sc44 reaction. One hundred and eighty-five resonances were identified to an accuracy of plus or minus keV between E sub p = 900 and 1500 keV, and relative resonance strengths were calculated. Spectra were recorded at E sub p = 1132, 1144 and 1289 keV using a 60-cc Ge(Li) detector. Forty-nine bound states, including 11 new states, were identified, with standard errors generally of 1-2 keV. The Q-value was calculated to be 6694 keV with a standard error of 1.2 keV and a systematic error < or = 1 keV. Decay schemes and branching ratios were determined, and many assignments were made of spins and parities. (Author)
