Far Infrared Fabry-Perot Interferometer,

Abstract

Descriptions are given of the construction of a Fabry-Perot interferometer, the technique for stretching and aligning the grids, and measurements made using 400 and 1000 L.P.I. grids. Ulrich's lumped parameter theory of the optical properties of square-type grids is applied to the calculation of the Fabry-Perot characteristics of the instrument; good agreement is found if the divergence of the incident radiation is considered. Calculations of the transmittance of multigrid interference filters give only qualitative agreement with examples from the literature, as does also an attempt to extend Ulrich's theory for square-type grids to cross-type grids.
