Collated Data on Fragments from Stacks of High Explosive Projectiles.

Abstract

Observations on fragmentation are presented from an extensive series of tests involving the detonation of stacks of high explosive projectiles (155 mm, 5.5 in and 8 in) of size 1, 9, 36, 72 and 240 and of pallets of 20 projectiles. Tables record the frequency distribution in selected weight groups of c 90,000 fragments. From this total number intercepted by packs of chipboard cards, individual weights and penetration values are tabulated for approximately 1,500 fragments representing samples of size 50 from each fragment zone for each Test Design. The data is collated in a form which is amenable to statistical analysis and the formulation of inferences regarding the effects of the size of stack. (Author)
