NELC UHF Tactical Satellite Communications Terminal for Apollo 9, 10, and 11 Recovery Missions.

Abstract

Simplex FM system -- tested in Apollo 9 recovery operations and used in Apollo 10 and 11 -- consistently established satisfactory voice communication of excellent quality through the TACSAT-1 satellite. The equipment provided for the operation of two simultaneous audio channels on all three missions. Interference to other services was not observed; interference from other services was minimal. Performance of a withinband teletype circuit was degraded by mutual interference within the system; use of an improved telegraph terminal is recommended. Simplex operation is shown to provide several advantages over duplex operation. (Author)
