Study of a Computer Program for Determining Mode Shapes and Frequencies of Multiple Beams.

Abstract

A method for obtaining eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of linear boundary value problems is presented. The method is applied to the problem of computing bending modes and frequencies of natural vibration of Timoshenko beams. The method is sufficiently general to allow many variations in the physical properties of the beams and in the boundary conditions at the ends of the beams. The beams may be rigidly connected to each other, connected by springs, have masses connected to them, and be subjected to axial loads. The description and operation of the resulting FORTRAN IV computer program are given. (Author)
