Marine Biofouling Studies Off Sattahip, Thailand.

Abstract

The Royal Thai Navy and the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office are conducting a series of marine biofouling studies in the Gulf of Thailand. Sampling for fouling and boring organisms was done by exposing test panels at various locations for different periods of time. This report is a summary of the data collected at the initial test site off Sattahip, Thailand, from June 1968 to June 1969. Data show that biofouling communities at the Sattahip test site are TROPICAL, INDO-PACIFIC in character. Biofouling attack is rated SEVERE (fouling V, boring V, on a severity scale of I-VI) at the test site, 2 miles from the mainland. Organisms known to cause problems attach in great numbers throughout the year and grow rapidly once attached. (Author)
