Finite Element Stress Analysis of Orthotropic, Layered Shells of Revolution Using a Curved Shell Element.

Abstract

The development of a curved finite element for orthotropic, layered shells of revolution subjected to axisymmetric or asymmetric loading is documented. A computer program to implement the solution and the instructions for its usage are also reported. Example problems illustrating accuracy and usage are included. The finite element methods if minimized by using the curved element which matches slope and curvature from element to element. Asymmetric boundary conditions involving displacements, local loads, and temperature gradients are simulated by Fourier harmonic analysis. (Author, modified-PL)
