Magnetocrystalline Anisotropy in Europium Oxide (EuO).

Abstract

The temperature dependences of both the first and second order magnetocrystalline anisotropy constants of EuO have been measured using ferromagnetic resonance techniques. Ag-value of 1.965 plus or minus 0.002 has been determined. The temperature dependence of the ferromagnetic resonance linewidth was also measured, the 4.2 K resonance linewidth of 43 Oe. being the narrowest reported to date. The resonance condition for rotations in the (100) and (110) crystallographic planes have been derived for the first time correct to second order in the expansion parameter delta n, where delta n = K sub n/MH. The importance of the second order terms in delta n has been demonstrated for rotation in the (111) crystallographic plane. (Author)
